A Brief History of Akhilabhagya Post Graduate College
Akhilabhagya Post Graduate College, Ranapar, Gorakhpur was established with a noble vision of bringing quality higher education to the rural, socially deprived, and educationally backward region situated between the Gorra and Rapti rivers. Founded under the aegis of the Shri Kalpanath Rai Vidya Prasarak Samiti, a registered society established under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, the institution traces its origins to 28 August 2004.
Inspired by the ideals of education, social service, and rural empowerment, the Samiti envisioned an institution that would provide affordable, accessible, and value-based higher education to students who otherwise had limited opportunities to pursue their academic aspirations.
The College achieved a significant milestone on 14 September 2005, when it was granted affiliation by Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur for undergraduate programmes in the Faculty of Arts. Initially, teaching commenced in seven subjects—Hindi, History, Ancient History, Political Science, Sociology, Geography, and Psychology. Responding to the growing educational needs of the region, the College expanded its academic offerings in the 2011–12 session by introducing English, Sanskrit, Economics, Education, and Home Science at the undergraduate level.
Committed to preparing skilled and professionally competent graduates, the College established the Faculty of Education (B.Ed.) in the academic session 2008–09. Recognizing its consistent academic performance and institutional development, the University progressively granted permission to introduce postgraduate programmes. M.A. courses in Political Science and Sociology commenced in 2009–10, followed by Hindi and Ancient History in 2012–13, Education and Geography in 2016–17, and Home Science in 2020–21.
The institution steadily diversified into professional and science education with the introduction of the Faculty of Commerce in 2012–13 through the B.Com. programme, followed by the Faculty of Science in 2014–15 offering undergraduate courses in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, and Botany. Continuing its commitment to academic expansion, the College launched the M.Com. programme in 2019–20 and further strengthened its postgraduate science education by introducing M.Sc. programmes in Zoology and Botany from the 2026–27 academic session.
Today, Akhilabhagya Post Graduate College is recognized under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956, reflecting its commitment to maintaining national standards of higher education.
Beyond academics, the College provides a vibrant campus environment that promotes the holistic development of students. It actively conducts co-curricular and extension activities through the National Service Scheme (NSS) with its Ram Prasad Bismil, Sant Kabir, and Rani Laxmi Bai units, Rovers & Rangers, sports and cultural programmes, career guidance and counselling, and community outreach initiatives. The College also nurtures students' literary and creative talents through its annual magazine "DISHA" and quarterly newsletter "DRISHTI-PATH."
With modern classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, a resource-rich library, ICT-enabled learning facilities, mentoring systems, and value-based education, the College has created a comprehensive learning environment that promotes academic excellence, innovation, leadership, and social responsibility.
Over the years, Akhilabhagya Post Graduate College has evolved from a modest rural institution into one of the leading centres of higher education in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
